Established in 1895, the O'Fallon Progress still serves the O'Fallon area as a weekly newspaper.
Currently, it is published every Thursday and is delivered with the Belleville News-Democrat.  The
O'Fallon Historical Society has the most complete Progress back-issue collection in existence which
includes the original Progress file copies dating back to 1898.  The collection includes 17 Feb 1898
through 5 Jan 1900, 7 Feb 1902 through 2 Oct 1914, 5 Feb 1915 to date.  The Society also has one of
two known copies of the first edition, 17 Feb 1895.  The missing dates were believed to have been
destroyed by water damage from a fire.   Many of the copies, especially the older ones, are in fragile
condition and are unavailable for general viewing.   But all of the above are on microfilm, including
editions referenced in this index, and are available for viewing at the O'Fallon Public Library.

Copies of articles may be obtained at the O'Fallon Public Library, 120 Civic Plaza, O'Fallon, IL 62269.
To request copies via email, please visit their website at
www.ofallonlibrary.org.  Click on "Ask an
O'Fallon Librarian" at the bottom of the home page.  Be sure to include the proper references as shown
in this online index.  Please limit requests to 5 at a time.  There is a small charge for this service.  Of
course, articles can also be viewed on site at the library.  There is a small charge for making copies from
the microfilm.

In addition, microfilm of the O'Fallon Progress is available at the Belleville Public Library, 121 E
Washington St., Belleville IL 62220 and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library in Springfield, Illinois.

This index was originally created as a 3 by 5 index card file by Doris Johnson.  This original file is
currently kept at the O'Fallon Historical Society museum.  It was digitalized by Carol Souza, Nan Cole,
Ruth Grandcolas, Jean Marshall and Dorothy Falk.  Updates are being done by Ruth Grandcolas.
O'Fallon Progress
Obituary and Marriage Index
Feb 1898 - Dec 2007
This index is current through the Dec 2007 edition of the Progress and will be updated periodically.
There are currently 27,965 entries.
The index is divided into four pdf files.  Click on the appropriate links below.
Especially for dial-up connections, each file make take a few moments to load.
Names are spelled as they appeared in the newspaper.  Misspellings happened occasionally.
Also, since this list is, for the most part, transcribed from handwritten index cards, errors made
during the digitalization process are certainly possible.  Omissions are also possible.  If a name is
not listed, that does not necessarily mean they did not appear in the paper.  They simply might
have been overlooked.  If you come across any errors or omissions, please do not hesitate to
report them to us.  We will make the appropriate corrections in the next update.
Thank you for your understanding.
